This past week, clothing store H&M opened a new “flagship” store in Amsterdam, right on Dam Square. For the last month, Amsterdam’s bus stops and poster boards have been plastered with advertisements in both English and Dutch, saying “H&M Loves Amsterdam!”. H&M is also calling this store their “best in the world.” Right before opening, a pretty cool 3D projection show was put on outside on the facade of the building:
Roxy and I went into the store this past weekend. It was PACKED. Maybe because of the crowds, I didn’t like it. Since it is an old historical building, H&M was limited in what they could do. As a result, it’s a store broken up into lots of rooms with small passages in between. The men’s clothing is on the 5th floor. Escalators take you to the 3rd floor, but you have to use stairs for the final 2 flights. A family of geniuses decided that sitting on the steps and blocking them was a good idea. Since this is the busy shopping time, and it’s a new store, we’ll have to go back maybe in January or February to get a better look at the place. There is no shortage of H&Ms in Amsterdam, we had to pass several others just to get to this one on our walk from Centraal Station.
